Counselling
I have been providing counselling to clients for over 25 years in many different settings. This includes mental health social work, youth work, hospital social work, and private practice therapeutic counselling.
I describe the process of counselling as a shared journey. We are in it together. It can be a daunting step to make. It may require bravery. I believe people come to counselling at times when they know change or acceptance is needed in order to move forward. We all get stuck at times, or travel down the wrong track, get lost or perhaps travel with unhelpful companions. Counselling can help you to gain beneficial perspectives and skills in order to live the life you want to live.
My counselling style incorporates strong social work values, a client-centred, strengths-based approach coupled with expertise in multiple therapy modalities. These include Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), CBT, ACT, Internal Family Systems (IFS) trauma therapy.
I have had specialist training in:
-
DBT- intensive training under Marsha Linehan’s company Behavioral Tech
